Voting Accessibility and Language Accessibility Advisory Committee(s)
The Voting Accessibility Advisory Committee (VAAC) and Language Accessibility Advisory Committee (LAAC) are ongoing committees to advise Madera County Elections on issues related to improving accessibility for the senior and disabled communities and language accessibility of elections and elections materials.
The mission of the VAAC is designed to advise, assist, and provide recommendations on how voters with disabilities can vote independently and privately.
The mission of the LAAC is to advise and assist with implementation of federal and state laws relating to access of the election process by Limited English Proficiency voters so that all voters can understand the voting process.
Due to the limited number of members, a joint committee has been formed. Should interest grow and additional members be added; these committees will work independently in the future.
The responsibilities of the joint VAAC/LAAC committee include:
- Provide expertise on improving access to voting, election materials, and language accessibility issues.
- Promoting general accessibility and language accessibility initiatives.
- Responding to questions regarding accessibility and languages.
- Attending the Madera County VAAC/LAAC meeting and providing input.
