    The candidate filing period is July 12, 2021 through August 6, 2021.


    If you do not meet that deadline, you may run for office as a “Write-in” Candidate.

    The candidate filing period for Write-In Candidates is September 6, 2021 through October 19, 2021.

    In an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19, the Elections Division will process candidates by appointment only.

    STRICT LEGAL DEADLINES APPLY – DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST DAY TO COMPLETE YOUR FILING REQUIREMENTS

    Candidates are encouraged to download the forms needed from this website however, if you are unable to download the documents, a packet can be picked up (by appointment) or a packet can be mailed to you.  To request a packet be mailed or to schedule an appointment for pick up, call the Elections Division at 559-675-7720.


    Follow the steps below:

    STEP 1

    Download forms for:  Candidates for City Office

    STEP 2
    Complete and email the Candidate Worksheet to: electionsinfo@maderacounty.com.
    If you are unable to return forms by email, you can do so by mail, fax or by appointment.

    STEP 3
    Elections Division staff will contact you by phone to go over the process, deadlines, forms and fees required.

    STEP 4
    Return all required forms via email to: electionsinfo@maderacounty.com.
    If you are unable to return forms by email, you can do so by mail, fax or by appointment.
    Elections Division staff will review your documents and will contact you to advise you of your status and to schedule your appointment(s).

    STEP 5
    When you arrive for final appointment please bring all original documents and fees.
    Make checks payable to Madera County Clerk-Recorder.

    More than one appointment may be necessary to complete your filings and appointments are limited to 15 appointments per day.
    Each appointment will be limited to 30 minutes so please be sure to have all original documents in order when presented.

    Nomination/Declaration of Candidacy Period

    August 2
    Semi-Annual Campaign Disclosure Statement Due (Form 460 Filers only)

    August 6
    Last day to file Campaign Disclosure Form 470 and Statement of Economic Interest Form 700 – Candidate Statement (online only via NetFile)

    September 3
    Issue 60-day Ballots to Military/Overseas Voters

    September 23
    1st Pre-Election Campaign Disclosure Statement Due

    October 4
    Issue Vote by Mail Ballots to all eligible voters

    October 5 to October 22
    Early In-Person Voting available at the Elections Division (Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm)

    October 5 to November 2
    1 walk-up/drive-up Official Ballot Drop Boxes Open for 24 hours per day

    October 18
    Close of Registration – last day to register to vote in this election

    October 21
    2nd Pre-Election Campaign Disclosure Statement Due (460 Filers)

    October 23 to November 1
    Vote Center Open for 8 hours per day

    November 2 – Election Day
    Vote Center(s) Open from 7am to 8pm
    All Official Ballot Drop Boxes will closed and locked at 8pm
